Alright, maybe I should take it down. Just made it to be funny... Probably no point in offending anyone needlessly. I certainly have no symbathy for American slavery. I'm using the symbol more as a general symbol for the south, not anything to do with racism or slavery, ChV"Sh.
The stars & bars don't have the same connotations to me as they do to you. If, to me they also connotated KKK & slavery primarily, then I would feel how you do. For me, it's connotation is more as a generic symbol for the south.
It is well known that a person usually had fond memories of the place where he/she grew up-this has its basis in the fact that the neshama longs to attach itself to Hashem via Mitzvah observance.
The real question is can you whistle Dixie during the 9 Days? HaHaHa
Actually, Anonymous, if you know me off-blog, then you would be aware that my family call it 'soda'. When we are eating bei someone who call it 'pop' I take the opportunity to m'kiyum the mitzvos of Chessed and V'Ahavta Le Ra'echa K'mocha and refer to 'soda' as pop usings my host's nusach. My children understand that our minhag is to call it 'soda'. :)

I am not offended in any way. I just find hard to understand how somone could Identify with it?
