That is not the Rebbe's opioion. It is a Chazal.A Ger goes through alot of Tzar Chazal says because he should of Converted earlier, but why untill Then He was a Goy? how could you hold it against him? the answer is he had the Din of GER Shnisgayer.

The Rebbe never said it was his opinion.

Odd comments. The title of the post was "The LR *on how*..."

It seems my comment was taken wrongly.I meant to say It is Pshat in CHazal not just Lubavitcher Rebbe on How Gerim Had a Jewish Spark Before Conversion (besides for the Use of the word spark) sorry if it seem to have other connotations that was definitly not my intention.

I thought of this topic the other day when I came across it in Mishnat Hassidim of R' Imanuel Hai Reiki. (in the third or fourth masechet dealing with Neshamot)

Apparently the Arizal's explanation was very close to what I had suggested/guessed, that a Ger prior to Geirus has the same status as a Jew prior to Bar Mitzwah, there's a roshem of a Neshamah, but no Neshamah yet.

The Rebbe frequently quoted the vort in the name of the CHIDA.. ger sh'nisgayer.. means he already had a Jewish spark..
