Are Non-Midievil Sources Good for Why Shabbos is Awesome?

Gil went on to state that enjoying one's spouse and family is not a reason supported by medieval sources.

Commented there:
See the Yerushalmi (Shabbos 15:3) that Shabbos is 'lachem', i.e. for personal enjoyment, and not exclusively 'l'Hashem', for contemplating G-d (similar issue found in the Bavli with respect to Yom Tov).

Rabbi Brown,

I'm glad you found a mekor for the lady in Rabbi Yaakov Horowitz's article, rendering Rabbi Student's point moot.

However, MoChassid's whole point is that the whole idea of requiring someone to search for sources whenever they talk to some co-worker in the elevator about the reasons why they love Shabbos in their heart is looney toons!

R. Gil's post wasn't on why people love Shabbos, it is what was the purpose of the command. Unless you have ruach hakodesh I know of now way to determine that other than the sources.
